What is Energy Medicine?

A friend introduced me to the concept of energy medicine a few years ago. I was intrigued, it made sense to me, and even more felt very natural to me. So, I researched, like I always do, read and read and read more.

I watched my boys intuitively using “energy medicine” on themselves to help with issues they were having. No-one had to instruct them. That’s when I knew, I was onto something… and I had to learn more.

I looked at all the forms of energy medicine, and there are many forms. I read about Acupuncture, Yoga, Qigong, Reiki, Therapeutic Touch, EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), Emotion Code (Dr. Bradley Nelson), meridians, chakras, frequencies, and I was already using my beloved essential oils.

The more I read the more I was drawn in. But it was even more than that. I began to be called to practice this. First to use this for myself and family and to extend this out to others.

I prayed and prayed about this. Was this the right direction to take? And there was no doubt because I kept being pulled into a particular modality, and to a particular teacher who is centered in love. I took the first steps and thus began another leg of my self-healing journey.

Positive changes in my thought processes, body, mind, and spirit occurred. My experience was rather dramatic, I was able to release a lot of toxins as well as emotions.

As a self-healing tool, I have been able to work on my physical body as well as my mental and emotional body. It truly has been a blessing.

With my children I have been able to quickly calm anxiety, sensory overwhelm, panic, headaches and distressed digestive systems.

So, what exactly is energy medicine? It’s a holistic practice (mind, body, and spirit) that activates the body’s subtle energy system to remove blocks allowing for the body’s inherent ability to self-heal. It both complements traditional medical care and can also be a complete system for self-care and healing.

Energy medicine is a gentle way to clear out cellular memory promoting health, wellness, balance (homeostasis), and relaxation.

When energy is unbalanced or depleted it will eventually result in stress or illness. Think about how stress can run your energy levels down making you physically and mentally tired and eventually affects your immune system because you end up with a cold. Chronic stress leads to illness or disease. Energy medicine helps restore the imbalance.

What energy medicine tools have I used? Acupuncture is one. Acupuncture stems from Traditional Chinese Medicine practices in which trained practitioners stimulate specific points on the body by inserting thin needles into the skin. … Surprisingly, although needles are used in acupuncture, treatments are relatively pain-free. I have always felt immense relaxation following an acupuncture treatment.

In order to reduce some of my stress, I dove into Yoga and a self-care regimen a few years ago. It was a perfect fit for me. In a way, Yoga is like meditation where you can focus only on your body and let go of other thoughts. Its gentle movements, and respect for your body, never pushing it too far, was perfect for me. My stress levels came down over time and I actually crave time on the yoga mat.

I have done a few sessions of Qigong, which is much like Yoga but moves much, much more slowly. Qigong is an ancient Chinese health care system that integrates physical postures, breathing techniques and focused intention.

EFT (tapping) uses acupressure points found in Acupuncture and instead of inserting needles you tap on these points instead. While tapping you concentrate on accepting and resolving the negative emotion resolving this issue. This works really well for me and only takes a few minutes. Once you learn how to do this, you can do this yourself and is a wonderful tool in your self-care toolbox.

Another thing I have learned is clearing unwanted stuck emotions using the Emotion Code. It’s a simple process and I have seen incredible benefits using this.

Another modality that started out as yet another tool in my self-care toolbox has turned into something more. I was called to study Reiki and become a Reiki Master Practitioner. Which means I am offering this healing modality to others. Again, this, as well as all the other holistic healing modalities, are a natural fit for me. Especially if you know my family’s background and issues with metabolizing and breaking down synthetic pharmaceuticals and over-the-counter meds. Natural is the only way for us.

Reiki is a compassion-based, gentle and relaxing energy healing modality. It is administered by light touch or hovering of hands over a fully-clothed individual. Reiki activates the natural healing processes of the client’s body and restores physical and emotional well-being.

You might ask, What can Reiki do for me?

If you are suffering from an imbalance, disharmony, illness, or issue which affects you on a physical, mental, emotional or spiritual level, you can benefit from Reiki.

Most people report feeling immediately better, more relaxed and experience lasting stress reduction.

The beautiful precepts of Reiki are universal in nature. And Reiki was meant to be shared universally as well.

Just for today… I will let go of anger. I will let go of worry. I will count my many blessings. I will live honestly. I will be kind and compassionate to all living things.

So, I hope you understand there are many, many forms of energy medicine. I have only named a handful, but these are some I have experience with. Maybe you are already familiar with some of these modalities, maybe you’d like to learn more yourself.

I truly think God meant for us to use all he has given to us naturally. Our bodies seem to work much better and in harmony with natural medicine and that includes energy medicine.
